Start in Medan, followed by Gunung Leuser National Park, Berastagi, Lake Toba and onto West Sumatra with Bukittinggi, Harau Valley. The tour ends with some days at a private beach near Padang. Whether you’re seeking relaxation or adventure, our package holiday ensures an unforgettable journey through the enchanting landscapes and diverse cultures of North and West Sumatra.
This 2 weeks North & West Sumatra tour is a proposal. We will gladly adapt it to your individual wishes and ideas. It can also be done vice versa.
Note: The prices indicated are starting prices. They include all stated inclusive services. Increased prices apply primarily in the high season from May-July and on Indonesian holidays like Ramadan or Idul Fitri. All prices in Euro and per person. Your 2 weeks North & West Sumatra tour begins with your arrival at Kuala Namu International Airport in Medan, where you'll be greeted by your private driver. The drive to Bukit Lawang spans app. four hours, winding through rubber and palm oil plantations, dense jungles, and picturesque mountain views. You will arrive in the enchanting village of Bukit Lawang, nestled on the fringes of the majestic Gunung Leuser National Park, where you'll have the chance to witness the awe-inspiring orangutans in their natural habitat.

Today, you embark on a thrilling 2-day jungle expedition where, with a bit of luck, you may encounter orangutans in their natural habitat. Our expert guides, licensed by the national park office and boasting years of jungle trekking experience, will accompany you. With two guides at your service, your safety and enjoyment are assured.
Your adventure begins with a 9 a.m. pickup from your accommodation, followed by a captivating trek into the heart of the jungle. The hike, spanning approximately 6 hours with breaks for photography and meals, promises an immersive experience amidst the lush wilderness.
Upon reaching the camp nestled beside a tranquil river in the afternoon, you'll have the opportunity to refresh with a dip in the water or simply unwind amid the serene surroundings. Our skilled cook will prepare a delicious Indonesian dinner for you, with vegetarian options available upon request. You will sleep in a semi-open shelter surrounded by the sounds of the river and jungle.
Alternative: If you don’t want to spend the night in the jungle, you can do only a 1-day trek and do more activities in Bukit Lawang the next day.
Note: For the jungle trek we put together groups of max. 6 people. However, the rest of the tour will be a private tour.
In the morning our cook will provide you with coffee, tea and breakfast. You can take another dip in the river and enjoy the serene surrounding. Depending on the campsite you will continue the jungle trek for about 2 hours or you will visit a waterfall where you can swim and unwind. After lunch you will leave the jungle by tubing back to Bukit Lawang. The afternoon is free.

The 2 weeks North & West Sumatra tour continues. Next, we'll whisk you away to Berastagi, a charming highland town renowned for its panoramic views of smoking volcanoes and sprawling fruit markets. Take in the fresh mountain air as you explore the picturesque surroundings and indulge in local delicacies. The drive takes around 4h. The afternoon is at leisure.

After a good breakfast you can climb the volcano Sibayak or visit the Hot Springs or the traditional village Lingga.
In the afternoon you will continue to Lake Toba (ca 4h), the largest crater lake in the world. On the way you can stop for photos, e.g. at the Sisipiso waterfall. You will be dropped at the harbour in Parapat. From there you take the ferry to Tuktuk to the island of Samosir. The ferry ride takes about 30 minutes and you will be dropped off at the hotel. The evening is at your free disposal.

Enjoy a day off at Lake Toba. Be captivated by the serene beauty of the crater lake, surrounded by verdant hills and traditional Batak villages. Relax by the tranquil shores or embark on a boat excursion to Samosir Island, where ancient cultural traditions await.
After breakfast you will explore the island of Samosir on a private sightseeing tour. You'll embark on a scenic drive to Ambarita, renowned as Samosir's ppicturesque village with rich traditions of the local Batak culture. Continuing your journey, you venture to Simanindo, where a mesmerizing performance of traditional Batak dance awaits you. Following this, you proceed to a breathtaking viewpoint offering panoramic vistas of Samosir Island and the majestic Lake Toba, ensuring an unforgettable experience amidst nature's splendor.
After breakfast at the hotel you take the ferry back to Parapat, where our driver will await you with a sign. You will drive to Padang Sidemuan (ca 8h). On the way you pass Sipirok, Balige and Tarutung, where you can visit pineapples plantations, Sarula river, traditional markets and villages or the Sipaholon hotsprings. Afternoon arrival at Padang Sidempuan.

After breakfast you will continue the journey to Bukittinggi, nestled amidst the lush greenery of the Minangkabau Highlands. The drive takes around 8h. On the way you can see the scenery of mountains, river valleys and traditional villages. You will stop at Aek Sijornih to see a waterfall among thousands of palm trees, a botanical garden, the biggest Islam school in Sumatra, Rimba Panti nature reserve and the Equator line. In the late afternoon you will arrive in Bukittinggi.

After breakfast you will pass Sianok Canyon and drive to Puncak Taruco to see beautiful panoramic views. After that you will continue to Bukittinggi market called Pasar Bawah. After that you will drive to Harau valley. No trip to West Sumatra would be complete without a visit to the breathtaking Harau Valley, where towering limestone cliffs and cascading waterfalls create a mesmerizing natural spectacle.
If you are here on a Saturday you might also experience the traditional bull race.

The Harau valleyis a truly unique scenery with grannit walls and lush green rice paddies. You will take a walk to the highest hill at Harau valley, boasting panoramic views. Afterwards you will visit water falls and other sights as you wish. The afternoon is at leisure.
Today, you will leave Harau valley. Along the way you can stop at the documentation centre for the Minangkabau. After that youcontinue your journey Bungus beach in the South of Padang. You will take boat for about 1 hour to the private Jophira beach. Free program.

It's island hopping time. Embark a private boat and discover the beautifull underwater world around Pagang Island while snorkelling. In the afternoon you will continue to Pasumpahan island for relaxation. If you are lucky, we can enjoy the sunset from the boat, before returning back to Jophira.
After lunch time you will take boat back to Padang.

Note: You can also take a flight from Padang on this day and skip the overnight stay. The trip to the airport takes around 2h from Jophira beach.
