2. Weather

The weather in Bukit Lawang is hot all year round, the hottest time is from June to August. If you want to explore the jungles of Gunung Leuser National Park, it is advisable to book a jungle trekking in spring or autumn, without worrying about the hot sun and too many mosquitoes.

3. The River of Bukit Lawang

The river is everything. It basically divides the village into two parts. For the locals, life takes place on the river. The laundry and dishes are washed, they wash themselves and the children play on the shores. Although the Bohorok River is very fast, there are some good places to swim – such as at the Rindu Alam Hotel or at the campingground. With a bit of luck you might even spot orangutans or monitor lizards at the campground.

4. Exploring the Wildlife

Since Bukit Lawang means “Gateway to the Jungle”, most come here for jungle trekking. In addition to visiting the village and experiencing the simple life, experiencing the wildlife is one of the main attractions of the place. The surrounding Gunung Leuser National Park is famous for its orangutans. Next to Borneo, this is the only habitat for these beautiful animals. Orangutans were included in the list of endangered species. In addition to orangutans you can also see Thomas Leaf monkeys, macaques, snakes, butterflies, turtles or tucans in the jungle around Bukit Lawang.

Camping in the Jungle

For a jungle trek, the jungle 2-night jungle tour is the most popular option. A night in the jungle is a breathtaking experience. You can also opt for a day trip. On the multi-day hikes we will respond to your needs. Included in the price are an English speaking guide, food, camp, entrance fees and rafting back.
