Tree Planting

Saving the Rainforest in Sumatra

Our Partnership with the Sumatra Orangutan Society

We are proud to announce a long-term partnership with the Sumatra Orangutan Society (SOS). Starting in 2025, we will donate each year to the Rewild Fund to support rainforest restoration in Sumatra. In addition, for every booked tour we contribute trees – so with every guest, the forest grows a little further.

Our membership is a commitment to supporting crucial conservation in Sumatra and protecting unique and threatened species such as the Sumatran Orangutan.

The Rewild Fund harnesses the power of community support to drive impactful, on-the-ground forest restoration. We will be directly supporting vital forest rehabilitation and regenerative land-use projects.

Why this partnership matters

The Gunung Leuser National Park is one of the last places on Earth where orangutans, tigers, elephants, and rhinos still live together in the wild. But large parts of this fragile ecosystem are under threat from deforestation and palm oil plantations. By supporting the Rewild Fund, we make a direct contribution to protecting these habitats and reforesting degraded land.

SOS is working not only in the West Toba region but also in close collaboration with the local NGO PETAI inside Gunung Leuser National Park – right where our own office in Bukit Lawang is based. For us, protecting the nature that our guests experience during their journeys is a matter close to our hearts.

Our contribution – trees per package tour

To actively involve our guests, we donate trees to the Rewild Fund for each booked package tour:

4-day tour: 1 tree
7-day tour: 3 trees
14-day tour: 7 trees

This way, every journey not only creates unforgettable memories but also leaves a lasting, positive impact.

Together for the rainforest

With every booking at Discover Sumatra, you actively support the protection and restoration of the rainforest. Together with SOS and PETAI, we help ensure that future generations can still experience pristine nature and healthy populations of orangutans and other endangered species.
