Itinerary
Five days deep in the untouched rainforest of Sumatra: this trek is perfect for those who want to experience the jungle in its full intensity. You will venture off the usual paths, discover rare wildlife, and fully immerse yourself in one of the oldest ecosystems on Earth.
With each day, you move further away from civilization – and closer to nature.
Day 1
At around 9:00 am, you will be picked up from your accommodation in Bukit Lawang and begin your adventure in Gunung Leuser National Park.
The trek starts across rubber and cocoa plantations before you enter the dense rainforest. Even on the first day, you have a good chance of spotting orangutans, Thomas leaf monkeys, or gibbons.
During the 6–7 hour hike, your guide will share insights about the flora and fauna of the jungle and introduce you to plants used in traditional medicine.
Lunch is a freshly prepared local meal served in the jungle.
In the afternoon, you arrive at your first riverside camp, where you can swim, relax, or simply enjoy the surroundings. In the evening, a freshly cooked Indonesian dinner awaits before you spend the night in a semi-open jungle shelter.
All info about the camp.
Day 2
After breakfast, you continue trekking deeper into the rainforest. The trails become narrower, the environment more untouched, and the jungle sounds more intense.
Your guide will lead you into more remote areas where the chances of spotting wild animals in their natural habitat increase. Besides orangutans, you may also encounter rarer species.
After lunch, you continue to a new camp by a remote river section.
The evening is spent relaxing with good food and the sounds of the jungle.
Day 3
By the third day, you are fully immersed in the rhythm of the jungle. After breakfast, you set off on another challenging trek through hilly terrain, passing giant trees, lianas, and dense vegetation.
Along the way, your guide will continue to share knowledge about wildlife and show you edible plants and natural resources of the forest.
Depending on the route, you may visit a waterfall, where you can cool off.
In the afternoon, you reach your next camp with time to rest or swim in the river.
Day 4
Today takes you even deeper into the most untouched parts of the national park. Fewer trekkers come here, making the experience more authentic and intense.
With some luck, you may encounter more orangutans or observe other wildlife in their natural environment. Your guide will adapt the route flexibly to maximize wildlife sightings.
After lunch, you hike to your final jungle camp.
Your last evening in the rainforest is truly special – enjoy the silence, candlelight, and the unique atmosphere far away from civilization.
Day 5
After breakfast, it’s time to leave the jungle. You return to Bukit Lawang in a relaxed way by river tubing, floating gently through the tropical landscape.
This is the perfect moment to reflect on the experiences of the past days.
Around midday, you arrive back in Bukit Lawang and will be transferred to your accommodation.
