Itinerary
Four days deep in the rainforest of Sumatra: you hike through one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world, spend the nights in simple riverside jungle camps, and experience the rainforest with all its sounds, scents, and encounters – far away from roads and everyday life.
Day 1
At around 9:00 am, you will be picked up from your accommodation in Bukit Lawang. Together with your local guide, you begin your trek into Gunung Leuser National Park, one of the last refuges of wild orangutans.
At first, the trail leads across public land with rubber and cocoa plantations, before you enter the dense rainforest. With a bit of luck, you may encounter orangutans, Thomas leaf monkeys, gibbons, toucans, turtles, peacocks, or monitor lizards. Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed.
During the 6–7 hour trek (including breaks), your guide will explain the flora and fauna of the national park and introduce you to plants used in traditional medicine. Lunch is a freshly prepared local (vegetarian) meal served in the jungle.
In the afternoon, you arrive at your first riverside jungle camp. There is time to swim, relax, or simply enjoy the surroundings. Coffee, tea, and biscuits are provided while our cook prepares an Indonesian dinner with several options (vegetarian options available).
You spend the night in a semi-open shelter, accompanied by the sound of the river and the jungle.
Day 2
After breakfast, you continue trekking deeper into the national park. The focus remains on wildlife spotting, learning about the ecosystem, and experiencing the rainforest at a slower pace.
After lunch, you hike on to another camp by the river. There is time to swim, rest, or explore the surrounding area.
In the afternoon, coffee or tea is served, followed by a warm dinner at the camp.
The evening is calm and atmospheric – candlelight, jungle sounds, and the feeling of being far away from civilization.
Day 3
After waking up, our chef will provide you with coffee, tea, and breakfast. Then you will set off on another jungle hike, where you will once again look for orangutans and other wildlife and learn more about the sensitive ecosystem.
You will have lunch in the jungle and hike for about 6-7 hours before reaching the last camp by the river.
The rest of the day is dedicated to relaxation: swimming in the river, enjoying nature, or simply letting the impressions of the last few days sink in. In the evening, there will be a communal dinner at the camp and another night in the middle of the jungle.
Day 4
In the morning, you can relax at the camp. At noon, it’s time to say goodbye to the rainforest. You leave the national park in a relaxed manner by tubing down the river back to Bukit Lawang. You glide leisurely through the green landscape and experience the jungle one last time from a new perspective.
Around noon, you reach Bukit Lawang and are taken to your accommodation.
