Jungle trekking can cause some unplanned situations – from weather changes, to exhaustion or health issues. Therefore it is better to be prepared for everything. Here is a packing list for jungle trekking in Sumatra. Try to make your luggage as light as possible.

Personal Hygiene
You can “shower” at the camp only in the river. So please bring organic hygiene products into the jungle.
- Toilet paper
- Medicines (diarrhoea, headaches, tablets to be taken regularly)
- Toothpaste (preferably organic toothpaste)
- Organic shower gel/soap
- Organic shampoo/solid shampoo
Water&Food
Bring one large water bottle per person for the first day. If you are travelling for two or more days, we will refill your water bottle with boiled water at the camp.
You do not need to bring any food with you. We will take care of that. Please let us know if you are vegan or vegetarian or have any special allergies.
Moskito spray & sunscreen
The mosquito spray from your home country usually has little effect, even the Nobite Deet Spray. The latter is also bad for the environment and stinks. We always recommend buying the Soffel spray in Sumatra. It smells nice and works great. You can buy it everywhere in the small shops and Indomaret.
Sun spray, on the other hand, should definitely be brought from home as it is very expensive locally.
Shoes
No special hiking boots are required, but you can of course use them. Trainers with good grip are sufficient. Please do not wear sandals, trekking sandals or flip-flops during the trek.
Long clothes?
Nights can be chilly in the jungle, so we recommend bringing long sleeve shirts and trousers/leggins. Wearing something comfortable is most important. No need to wear long clothes during the trek as there are few moskitos and leeches.
Other equipment
We provide a mattress, blanket, pillow and mosquito net at the camp. Read all info on the jungle camp here.
